Lemonades bring back so many memories of summer, cooling off with a tall icy glass of this drink, sitting on a porch, and visiting with friends, while everyone is trying to stay cool and hydrated.
Lemonade can either be a healthy beverage, or one not healthy at all, depending on how you make it. Those super sweet, sugary concoctions of lemonade are the unhealthy versions.
Have you ever considered switching it up by adding lavender? Lavender added to lemonade gives additional health benefits of helping to calm the nervous system, help with digestion, is an antioxidant, and has anti-inflammatory qualities, all of which can add to our general well-being. Plus, it tastes great!

Lemons also pack a wallop of health benefits, especially if using organic ones. They are rich in vitamin C, have great antioxidant properties to help reduce inflammation, assist with digestion, and contain enzymes to help stimulate the liver, which helps detoxify the body. They can also help to balance the pH balance in the body.
The perfect lemonade is as varied as peoples’ tastes are. Some enjoy theirs super sweet, some like it tart, others like it strong while still other folks like it on the watery side.
What this means in making homemade lavender lemonade, is that I’ll give you a base recipe, but you will need to adjust it from there, to your preferences. You also may want to go with more, or less lavender as well.
You can also vary what you want to sweeten it with. Of course, sugar is an option, but you can also go with honey, stevia, monk fruit, xylitol, or any other sweetener you’d like.
Lavender Lemonade Recipe
Ingredients
5 cups water divided
1. 5 cup sweetener (sugar, honey, or your choice of sugar-free sweetener that equals about this amount)
3 T. dried lavender
1 cup lemon juice
Lemon zest (optional)
Directions:
In a saucepan, heat 2.5 cups of water and your sweetener, boil for 1 minute to dissolve.
Put the lavender and lemon zest in a jar. Make sure there is no white pith on the lemon zest, as this will make your lemonade bitter.
Pour the boiling water on the lavender and lemon zest and let it steep for 25 minutes.
While this is brewing, mix the other 2.5 cups of water and the lemon juice into a tall pitcher.
After the 25 minutes, strain with a fine mesh strainer and pour this into the pitcher.
Taste and adjust sweetness if needed, and make notes of what you would change next time. If you need to add a bit more lemon juice you can. Make a note if you want a stronger lavender flavor next time.
Serve over ice and enjoy!
You can also switch this up to make a basil lemonade as well.
Do you all enjoy your lemonade on the tart or sweet side? What is your favorite sweetener to use? I’d love to hear in the comments.
