Plum Pie Recipe: A Proven Winner You'll Love
A vintage pie recipe that friends and family will rave about
I love exploring vintage recipes that were favorites that were sidelined for whatever reason.
This one is great for potlucks, picnics, and hosting family and friends for a BBQ or dinner.
This awesome pie recipe is a proven winner because it won a blue ribbon at a local county fair; the judges loved it that much.
It's also unusual and great for people with a plum tree in their yard.
If you enjoy baking, consider entering it at your county fair and see how it stacks up against the competition.
Plum Pie Recipe
Make your favorite pie crust recipe for a 2-crust, 9-inch pie shell.
Ingredients
4 cups plums or Italian prunes, pitted and chopped in large chunks
3 T. tapioca
2 C. sugar
1/4 t. cinnamon
2 t. lemon juice
1/4 to 1/2 t. sugar
Directions
Place your pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan. Roll out the top crust as well and cut slits into it for venting.
Put the plums in a bowl, add the tapioca, then stir well. Allow this to set for 15 minutes.
Add 1 cup of sugar and cinnamon to a small bowl and stir. Fold this into the plum mixture (after the 15 minutes have passed), then add the lemon juice and mix well.
Put this into your pie shell. Add the top pastry crust, then seal the edges. Put foil around the edges to prevent overcooking those areas.
Sprinkle with the remaining sugar lightly.
Bake in a 350° F. preheated oven for 60 minutes.
Remove the foil from the edges after the first 35 minutes of baking.
Allow to fully cool before serving.
